Fire destroys 3 homes in Maryland Active Adult Community of Heritage Harbour

A three-alarm blaze engulfed two sets of duplexes when a fire broke out around noon on Wednesday in the 2600 block of Compass Drive, of the active adult community of Heritage Harbour, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said.
Anne Arundel County Fire Department (AACFD) Chief Keith Swindle said the fire was active and "not under control," at 12:30 p.m., but by 1 p.m. the fire had been contained. There were no injuries or fatalities as a result of the fire, Swindle said.
More than 60 firefighters from Anne Arundel County jurisdictions responded to the blaze from agencies as far away as Severna Park. Also offering assistance were fire companies from Arnold, Annapolis, and the Naval Academy Fire Department, Swindle said.

Lt. Jack Beall of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said several residents were displaced as a result of the fire, but they were able to evacuate without incident due to working smoke detectors and sprinkler systems.
"Residential sprinklers activated allowing the occupants to exit safely from the dwelling," Beall said.
Herman Dubick, 69 who lived in the home next to where the fire originated said while this was devistating, he is thankful that neither he or his wife suffered any injuries. They have 2 pets who had been taken to the veterinarian for examination after suffering smoke inhalation.

According to two representatives of the American Red Cross who were onsite within an hour of the 911 call, 3 residents have been displaced and are being provided housing by their insurance companies. The red cross is providing them with food, clothing, their prescription medications, a replacement hearing aid to one of the residents, and a comfort pack of basic toiletries and essentials.
The red cross provides these services at no cost and with no request or expectation of reimbursement.
Neighboring homes behind and across the street from those engulfed by the blaze suffered minor exterior damage due to the extreme heat from the blaze.
The cause for the fire is still under investigation.
